Call to Order / Gassho
Meeting called to order by Reiko Ikkanda (Time: 7:47pm). Gassho led by Rev. Briones.

Approval of the minutes
Corrections to the minutes: Cadettes I Report should read “Lisa” instead of Lynn Kawasaki.


Reports
Treasurers Report: May 2005. As prepared by Junie Obi, Treasurer.

Temple Board Meeting (Reported by R. Ikkanda):

  • Gotanye and Hatsumairi infant presentation on May 22. There will be 10 babies presented. If you need information, please contact Rinban Matsubayashi. Sept. 2nd to 4th
  • Orange County Buddhist Church will be hosting the Southern District Conference at Anaheim Hilton.
  • If you wish the Temple letterhead it must be signed by the Rinban or the Board President.
  • Please supervise your children during scouting activities or other Temple activities, including the bathrooms and rocks were found in the trees and grass areas. No skateboarding, running around the parking lot, skate shoes inside the Kaikan or Temple, etc. Parents! Please stay at the scout meetings for emergency reasons or for supervision.
  • If you leave your car in the parking lot after hours please let the office know so the gate will not be locked.
  • The Temple will be celebrating its 100th Centennial at the Quiet Cannon in August, 2005 for $50.00 per person. More information to follow.

Temple Affiliated Organizations Meeting (Reported by R. Ikkanda):

  • There will be an Ochigo parade on August 28th for the Centennial. Please see Pam Tabata.
  • The Temple will need help passing out Centennial fans during the Obon dancing.
  • Bingo runners need to be turned into Kenji Hatakeyama by the June Obon meeting.
  • On May 24 and 25th they will be painting and repaving so there will be no activities in the evening.

Troop Leaders (Report by Nancy):

  • The Belmont Neighborhood has a new membership service chair and its Erica Henderson.
  • Financial Report for this year is due on June 30, 2005. They want the books to close on May 31, 2005. Some of the bills will not be in this report but will be in the next report. All Leaders please prepare their list of dues and expenditures and turn into Nancy by June 30th. Also they need a Treasurer’s Report.
  • The Council would like all troops to change their bank to Wells Fargo. We will be charged a $5.00 monthly fee.
  • Gold Award Luncheon at the Grand Wilshire Hotel on June 5th. The Council is asking if any girls would like to do the color guard.
  • June 5th there will be a CPR Super Sunday at LBCC. Need girls to help out – sign up sheet will be passed out.
  • All levels of girl scouts, please keep slide presentation to 5 minutes.
  • Please let the leaders know if you and your child are interested in the Obon patch. It involves 1 lecture by Rev. Briones, coming to Obon practices and dancing at Obon.

Group Reports:

  • Brownies: Reported by Emi Morimoto. The Brownies completed their sixth Try-It, “Hobbies”. Thank you to Joy Middo who share her hobby of collecting recipes. Each of the Brownies brought in copies of their favorite recipe, and the girls compiled these receipts into cookbooks for themselves. We are now working on the “Earth & Sky” Try-It. Thank you to Bill and Isabelle Sato who taught the girls about stars and constellations. The Satos even brought their telescope so the girls could look at the moon and stars. Tonight the Cadettes are helping the Brownies with two “Earth & Sky” activities – making rocks and learning about clouds. This Sunday, the Brownies will be using their Troop money to go to Disneyland. With the families that are coming along, we have 36 people in our group.
  • Juniors 1 and 2: Reported by Lynn Taketomo: Beginning at the month, Jr. I & II helped the Jr. IIIs with the centerpieces for the Boy Scout Pancake Breakfast. Last week they finished their last two badges of the year – “Sign of the Sun” and “Its Important to Me”. Tonight all Juniors are working with the Seniors on their Court of Award performance.
  • Juniors 3: Reported by Lynn for Rose Kamiya: The Jr. IIIs created flower arrangements for the Boy Scout Pancake Breakfast. The activity was very successful and the girls earned $365.00. The girls would like to thank Mr. Ken Kawasaki for his generous donation. He donated 80 potted plants for this activity. They would also like to thank the Jr. I & IIs for helping them on Friday and also Mrs. Taketomo for her help with the pre-sale. Also thank you to all the parents who purchased the centerpieces. The money earned will be used to pay for the trip to San Francisco for the Junior Bridging on May 14, 2005.
  • Cadette 1 and 2: Reported by Ted Oyama. The Cadette I’s completed their “Emergency Prepardness” badge. They started working on the year end program and went hiking to the Chanty Flats and picnicked under the waterfall and there were lots of salamanders. The Cadette II’s are working on their leadership award. On September 9 to 11th the Cadette I and II will be going to the troop encampment to Catalina Island.
  • Cadette 3: Reported by Stacy Tanaka. On Sat. May 7th the girls helped out at the JACCC’s Children’s Festival Girl Scout Booth. They made little wind chimes and ningyo origami (emperor & empress). On Wed. May 11th the girls attended the Silver Award Ceremony in Redondo Beach. All five girls got their friendship ribbon and their silver pin. On Sat. May 14th the girls used up their troop money for a manicure/pedicure at the Nail Forum in Glendale and after they had lunch at the outdoor food court. Tonight they are finishing up their bridging requirements.
  • Seniors I: Reported by Stacy Tanaka for Cyndy Wakita. Tonight the girls are working with the Juniors on their entertainment for the Court of Awards. Last week they worked on their script for the Court of Awards. If parents know that their daughter will not be at the Court of Awards, please let us know so that the responsibilities can be redistributed. Last month the girls held their Girl Scout Open House. Five girls were interested in joining as Brownies. Activities included bracelets and ice cream making.
  • Seniors II: No report.
  • Seniors I: No report.

Old Business
  • Refreshment Schedule: Last revision to the schedule was made by Reiko Ikkanda.
  • Cookie Sales: Reported by Walt Louie. Summary report is available. Thank you to all the girls scout families for their help, coordinators, Isabelle Sato, Joy Middo and Eileen Yoshimura. The patches and gifts have arrived and will be distributed soon.
  • Yakisoba: No report
  • Gotan-e: Thank you to representatives, Mari Kawasaki and Lauren Taketomo.
  • Obon: Report by Judy Lew. July 9th and 10th. The Carnival is going to start at 3:00 to 10:00 on Saturday and 3:00 to 9:00 on Sunday. Odori practice is on Tuesday and Thursday, starting on June 14th from 7:00 p.m. for 4 weeks and ending on July 7th. The dancing will start on Saturday at 7 to 9 and Sunday from 6:30 to 8:30. The dancers will receive a $1.00 complimentary ticket. Sign up sheets are being passed around. Also there is a Bingo sign up sheet. Please make sure that you sign up and also show up for your shift. There are new hapi coats for this year and will be available at the office, price $40.00. There will be a sign up for the Cadettes and Seniors to bus tables. Please make sure that your girls sign up.
  • Court of Awards: Reported by T. Hirahara. Sat. June 18th. We are going to start at 6:00 p.m. Cadette IIs are in charge however we are requesting for more help from all the Cadettes and their families. Sign up sheet will be passed around. Check with Rev. Briones for the projector on June 18th.

  • Thank you for tonight’s refreshments to Miyatake and Teranishi and also to Gail Kawato for serving the refreshments for the parents and L. Taketomo and Satos for the girls.
