Reports
Treasurers Report: September, 2004. As prepared by Tosh Yasuda, Treasurer.

Temple Board Meeting:

  • Rev. Patty Usuki is at San Fernando; Rev. Usuki is going to West LA as of Nov. 1st. Rev. Oda is retiring. Two new reverends will be arriving on Oct. 1st and Nov. 1st.

Temple Affiliated Organizations Meeting:

  • Donna Anami reported that the temple is giving away items if anyone is interested please see the list.

Troop Leaders:

  • Report by Ted Oyama. He is the new Neighborhood Chair for the Belmont group (5 troops). He is in charge for the paperwork from the leaders, co-leaders and adult volunteers and will be collecting and submitting them to Council. The forms are due on Monday. For the leaders he is having a First Aid/CPR class on Sat. Sept. 25th at 8:30 a.m. at Nishi. If you signed up please see Ted after the meeting. We have 3 first aid kits. Stacy restocked one and the other one is up-to-date and have to locate the other one. Please see your level leader and check if all your paperwork is correct and turned in. 
  • Report by Nancy Hayashibara. Welcome Everybody. We added 6 new girls, 2 Juniors and 4 Brownies. We have 54 girls in the Troop. Registered 12 Leaders and 12 parent volunteers.

Group Reports:

  • Brownies: Reported by Emi Morimoto. Welcome 4 new Brownies bringing the total to 10 girls. Activities: At the first meeting the girls made greeting cards with cardstock and foamies and they voted in their Try-Its. Last week they began their first Try-It, “Wave the Flag”. They learned about nautical flags, flag signals and also spelled their names with nautical flags. After they finish “Wave the Flag” they will move on to their second Try-It, “Penny Power”.
  • Juniors: Reported by Rose Kamiya. Rose is the new Junior leader along with Lynn Taketomo. Two new juniors. The girls are working on the “Sign of the World”. They have five activities and in the process of completing three of the five. Also working on “Improve Your Neighborhood” and are going to recycle slightly used toys to donate to a homeless shelter here in our neighborhood. They are asking for donations of slightly used toys to donate. Also working on “”Ceramics & Clay”, “Toy Maker” Try-Its.
  • Cadette 1 and 2: Cadette I and II: Reported by Lynnette Hamada. Sept. 10th meeting elected new officers for first quarter and prepared for upcoming events. On Sept. 17-19 the girls went to Catalina. The girls all had a wonderful time. They were able to work on their basic requirements for the interest patch “Paddle, Pole and Roll”. They also did ocean kayaking, canoeing, snorkeling and even did a swim test. Ted Oyama conducted a class called “Girls Exploring the Solar System” which was a introduction to aerospace engineering, designing a system to fly/land an egg without breaking it and also explored tide pools. Tonight they are going a “Welcome Back Party” and all the different levels are invited. The girls are having food, craft and games. Reported by Ted Oyama: 30 girls earned their Obon patch for participating in the Obon festivities.
  • Cadette 3: Reported by Stacy Tanaka. The girls are working on their leadership award which is the last section for the Cadettes. They can now start on their Silver Award.
  • Seniors I: Reported by Cindy Wakita. The girls are working on their schedules (i.e., school activities, sports). No meeting on Oct. 1st. On Oct. 2nd we will be going to UCLA for a workshop and a tour of the campus. On the Oct. 30th we will be attending the Gold Award workshop.
  • Seniors II: Reported by Norene Yasukochi. The girls are working on their Gold Award and they made notebooks to organize their badge work. They also decided to have a tattoo booth for the Halloween party. We also will be attending the UCLA Day on Oct. 2nd. The girls will also be attending a Gold Award Workshop on Sat. Nov. 20th. Requesting a short meeting after this meeting is over.
  • Seniors I: Reported by Suzette Kawaguchi. Four girls have almost finished their Gold Award and it must be submitted on or before Oct. 1st . The other four girls will be submitting their application which is due on Oct. 1st and will start their Gold Award which will be due on April 1st.

Old Business
  • Obon: Reported by Leona Hirayanagi. Thank you for everybody who showed up and worked very hard. Unfortunately it was not as successful this year because of the problem with the noodles. There is a need for a meeting with the Obon Committee for next year.

New Business
  • Nuts and Magazines: Reported by Doris Ming. Permission slips need to be turned in tonight. No cash accepted. Make checks out to Girl Scout Troop 1213. All girls must sell $25.00 worth of nuts and/or magazines. Please try and have the girls fill out the booklet and turn it in. Please see important information regarding dates, group coordinators, award points in your packet.
  • Halloween Party: Reported by Yuenny Hamaguchi. The party is on Oct. 30th at 7:30 p.m. There is a sign up sheet for refreshments. Please RSVP by Oct. 8th. Asking each family to bring 100 pieces of candy or 35 treats (i.e., pencils, party favors). A box will be set up in the Kaikan and downstairs. The last day to bring in treats is Oct. 15th. Please note that the flyer indicates only Scouts and siblings only.
  • T-Shirts/Sweatshirts: Please see Ethel if you would like to buy the blue girl scout t-shirt. Cost is $8.00. All new girls get one. If you are interested in sweatshirts, please see Ethel. Donation was made by Southern California Edison thanks to Stacy Tanaka and Health Net thanks to Robert Taketomo. The donation will be used to offset the cost of sweatshirts. The cost of the sweatshirts is $24.00 for pull-over and $27.00 for the zip. Next meeting there will be a list to sign up.
  • Refreshment Schedule: (Donna Anami). There is a new refreshment schedule being passed around.
  • Eitaikyo Service: Nov. 21st. Volunteers are Allie K. and Marisa. K.

Announcements
  • Thank you to Stacy Tanaka and Robert Taketomo for their donations.
  • Nisei Week Basketball Tournament. Please have your girls let their leaders know if they cannot attend Girl Scouts on Oct. 1st -3rd.
  • VFW Basketball Tournament: Nuts and Magazine orders are due on that day. Please arrange to have your orders in. It will be decided by the leaders if there will be a meeting. All leaders must let Nancy know if the girls are not going to meet.
  • Thank you to the families for the Garden Clean Up on Sept. 5th. Next Garden Clean Up on Jan. 9th: Anami, Hanada, Higashiyama, Hirahara, Hirayanagi, Ida, Kawaguchi, Kawato, Kimura, Lew, Sato, Tomita, Yasuda.
  • Next month’s refreshments: Parents: Middo, Yoshimura and Higashiyama; Girls: Kawaguchi and Miyatake.

  • K. Kawato made an announcement thanking the parents for the donations for her Gold Award project and she has before and after pictures to share.
  • Emi announced that Cindy Yaguchi as the new leader for the Brownies.
  • Reiko needs to talk to the Brownies, Juniors, Cadette I and Cadette II and Senior II leaders after the meeting.
  • Dates to Remember: Oct. 29th – Halloween Party; Nov. 19th – Parents Meeting; Nov. 26th – No meeting; Dec. 10th – Year End Party; Dec. 17th – No meeting; Dec. 24th and Dec. 31st. – No meeting.
  • The Troop’s digital camera needs a home. Ethel Toguchi volunteered to be in charge of it and will make a check out list for any group that would like to use it.
