Call to Order
/ Gassho
Meeting called to order at 7:45pm by Arlene Yokoyama.
Gassho led by Lorraine Kimura. Welcome and Parent’s Promise: Arlene welcomed parents; Stan Yokoyama read the Parent’s Girl Scout Promise which appears on the website and is part of the mission statement.
Approval of the minutes
Minutes for May were reviewed and approved. No corrections.
Reports
Treasurers Report: Prepared by Junie Obi, Treasurer.
Temple Board Meeting:
- Arlene Yokoyama noted that at the September meeting there was no Girl Scout related information to report; next meeting Oct
13th.
Temple Affiliated
Organizations Meeting:
- Leona Hirayanagi (Vice Chair). Troop will need to reimburse the affiliates for obon expense.
Troop Leaders:
- Report by Nancy.
Registration is complete with a total of 58 girls in the troop. 14 leaders; 8 drivers.
Four new leaders: Isabelle Sato(B3), Joy Middo(B2), Eileen Nozaki (B1), and Sandie Tom (B1). Investiture will occur on November 4th. New parent orientation was September 16th. Leaders will be speaking to the girls about helping out hurricane victims. Last year, the girls sent support for the tsunami disaster. Need to decide whether to use dues or TOS$. Obon patches for eligible girls. TOS (orders & subscriptions for nuts and magazines)- selling period Oct 1 – Oct 16th; orders due on 10/14 (but no meeting that date). Sunday, Oct 30th delivery and pick up for nut orders at Nishi. Nishi troop is one of the largest in the area so it will be in charge of many activities such as the magazine and nut sale. At Belmont neighborhood meeting, there was talk of consolidating some of the Girl Scout councils to be more efficient in terms of resources. Will need to change bank account to Wells Fargo in Fall 2007. Girls wear a blue t-shirt on parent nights; leaders to pass out first t-shirt for free; second t-shirt or any additional shirt is $8.00. First Aid class on 10/22 for leaders; send confirmation to Ted. Community support for Keiro provided by Lauren
T. and Alyssa M. who were featured in the Keiro booklet. Let Nancy know if level is meeting on November 11th.
Group Reports:
- Brownies: Reported by
Isabelle Sato. New Brownie members were introduced. On Sept 9th, 11 new Brownies were welcomed to the troop. Practiced the handshake, promise, and law. Voted on the try-its they would like to complete: chose Me and My Shadow Try It. Joy Middo lead Tracing a Shadow. The girls took turns outlining each other’s head profiles and decorated their heads with drawings, stickers, copies of the Promise and Law. On Sept 17th, played Brownie Bingo to get acquainted with each other. Isabelle Sato lead Shadow Puppet Play. The girls cut out figures onto a popsicle stick and acted out plays such as “The Three Little Pigs” onto a wall. On Sept 25th, Eileen Nozaki lead Shadow Dress up. The girls were grouped together to trace a model’s full body shadow. They were given felt and various materials to dress up their brownie shadow. They decorated their Hurricane Relief Fund Collection Boxes. On Sept 30th, Cadettes hosted a Welcome Back party for the
girls.
- Juniors: Reported by Lynn Taketomo: New member Olimpia
B. is joining the Juniors at the J3 level. The Juniors have been working on the Sign of the Rainbow and will be finishing the World Neighbors badge which is one of the requirements for the Sign, with the S1’s tonight. At the end of June, four J3’s (Aria
H., Jordan M., Alyssa M. and Lauren T.) finished their Bronze Award project. The girls constructed two planters and collected gently used books; they held a book fair with the theme “Read and Grow” for preschool children. The girls would like to thank everyone who donated books and supported their efforts!
- Cadette 1 and 2: Reported
by Lisa Kawasaki. During September 9, 10 & 11, Cadettes I and II went on a camping trip to Catalina Island. The Cadettes participated in activities including snorkeling, kayaking, hiking, tide pool exploration, and sitting by the campfire. The Cadettes elected officers for the 2005-2006 calendar year (President: Jessie
L., Vice-President: Allie K., Secretary: Katie Y., Treasurer: Sarah K.). For the first Parent Meeting, the Cadettes planned activities for the troop. Cadettes continue working on their “From Sea to Shore” interest patch with Mr. Oyama. Lisa stated that a list of 5 patrols have been posted for opening and closing. Check list for when you are responsible for opening and closing; please arrive at 7:15pm and report to the Cadette marked in “bold” with asterisk* when you are responsible for
opening.
- Cadette 3: Reported by
Lynette Hamada. Cadette III’s are completing their Pets Interest Patch and are preparing to start their Silver Award Project. Their service project for Pets Interest Patch is to work with Senior II Jamie
H. collecting towels and blankets for the pet victims of Hurricane Katrina from 9/30 through 10/7. Boxes for collection are located next to downstairs
kitchen.
- Seniors I: Reported by
Stacey Tanaka. Started on Gold award, steps 1 and 2. On Saturday, they will attend a Gold Workshop at the Santa Monica Program Center from 10-12 (Step 1). They are also working on two interest patches (Understanding Yourself and Others and Family Living). Tonight, they are working with the Juniors on their World Neighbors interest patch by playing a game from another country and teaching them some common conversational terms in two different languages (Japanese and
Spanish).
- Seniors II: Report by
Cyndy Wakita. The girls are currently planning the Career Fair with the Senior I girls. The Career Fair is scheduled for December 2. The Senior 2 girls are also working on the Keiro Holiday bingo event on December 10th. (more information concerning these events will be distributed at the next Parent Meeting). Girls still needing Leadership Hours should be encouraged to participate in the Angeles Council’s Fall Festival on October 22-23rd. Cyndy would like to encourage all the Senior 2’s to participate. Gold award prerequisites need to be written and completed for turn-in by the beginning of the new
year.
- Seniors III: Reported by
Norene Yasukochi. The girls worked on their gold projects over the summer. They are completing their final
reports.
- Neighborhood Chair: Ted
Oyama presented the Belmont neighborhood report. There are 46 neighborhoods within the council. Belmont has 6 troops; (2) troops are being formed now. Ted thanked the leaders and adults for their
volunteerism.

- Obon: Teresa Higashiyama/Judy Lew. The obon went very well. Net income was $3,015 for the two days.

New Business
- Nuts & Magazine (Shirley and Patrick Marty): Packets were handed out. Tonight, the parent permission slips must be returned. Orders must be received by October 16th. The selling period is from October 1 through 16. For the magazine booklet, form must be completely filled out. Patrick will be at Nishi on Sunday, Oct 16th from 11:30-1:30 for orders.
- Halloween Party (10/28/05, Yasukochi): RSVP for Halloween party must be received by 10-14. Setup will begin at 7PM. Parade and booths open at 7:30PM. Sign ups must include scout and any siblings. If siblings are all in scouts, the oldest sibling should be the source of the RSVP. Bring small bag or 24 pieces of candy and leave at drop off location (boxes marked Halloween Party Candy next to the Girl Scout bulletin board) by 10/14. Need help with booths such as photo booth. Girl scouts have two booths; boy scouts will have two booths.
- Refreshment Schedule (Leona Hirayanagi):
Available at next parent meeting.
- Garden Clean-up Available at next parent meeting. Additional date (March 12) has been given to Girl Scouts since the cub scouts do not have enough parents. New parents should sign up for March 12th.
- Eitaikyo Service
(11/20/05): Marissa K. and Alexandra K. to be the representatives for this special service.
